In 1997 Frederic Ozanam Conference formed in Nanaimo, changing its name to Nanaimo Frederic Ozanam Conference the same year and to St. Peter's Conference in 1999. St. Peter's aggregated in 2001. We have 18 full members and one auxiliary member. All of our membership is active in the business of the conference. Monthly meetings are held regularly except in July and August. With God's blessings we hope to increase this membership next year.
The core of services has been responding to calls for food and similar needs, and the distribution of Christmas hampers. In 2007 the conference made 321 home visits. St. Peter's helped 203 families (507 adults and 333 children). Included in these numbers are 123 visits to single adults. But what is most astonishing is the fact that all of these calls were handled by six dedicated members working in teams of two. These members are truly living the "Spirit of St. Vincent de Paul". This conference assembled and delivered, with the help of volunteers, a total of 71 Christmas hampers. The hampers contained gifts for all children 18 years and younger, and also included were hand-knit sweaters, mitts, toques and slippers.
"May God bless all of our clients, donors, volunteers and members of the Society. Also we offer deepest thanks and appreciation to the parishioners of St. Peter's Parish, Trinity Catholic Parish, St. John's Croatian Church and St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Church. They have supported our work with very generous monthly food drives and monetary collections. We could not continue without their partnership and constant help."
